Random Number Generator and Casino Games

When we play most casino games, they are a game of chance. Yes, you can place your strategic bets, and claim you have the holy spirit on your side, but when it comes down to it your virtual roulette ball is going to land a number the computer picks, and you have no control over that.

What I’m talking about is something called a Random Number Generator, or a RNG. While doing my research at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/random_number_generator I learned all sorts of things about RNG, such as almost all casino games have this inscribed in their software.

There are basically two methods: physical and computational. Physical is obviously throwing dice or flipping a coin. Computational abides by a specific formula to find which number comes next. As silly as it sounds humans can even be random number generators, although many studies have proven that humans aren’t as random as they like to think, and there is usually a subconscious sequence involved in their numbers.

RNGs aren’t just useful in gambling, there is also a need for them in statistical sampling, computer simulation, cryptography and completely randomized design.
When playing games online you may find yourself disheartened from the randomized numbers that show up on the dice, or in your blackjack hand, you may like telling yourself that the computer is “cheating”, when in fact it is achieving the same goal as the casino, just a different method.

Who would have thought all of this math and algorithms go into your slot game or craps roll?
