Why does everyone think online gambling is illegal in the US? Well, other than the fact that it is in a few states.
But that is it, and even in states that forbid it, there are no harsh penalties for being caught doing it.
While researching Online Gambling on http://www.wikipedia.org/ I found that ever since 2002 when the US started actively banning online gambling, there has been a new step each year to bring it back into legalized territory.
Okay, so what does this mean for other countries?
Well, Australia has very strict Internet laws, so it is no surprise that online gambling is widely illegal, and players are prosecuted. India and Russia also fall into this category.
As far as completely legal countries go: Canada, the European Union and The Caribbean all actively support online gambling, and all online gambling facilities call these places home.
What makes the US stand out is: as you visit some of these websites you will see a special sign that reads: “US players welcome”. The US produces some of the biggest gamblers; therefore online casinos want them at their site.
I intended to write this blog about all of the different reasons the US should legalize Online Gambling, but it ended up being about where the world stands on Online Gambling.
This brings me to something very interesting I read the other day. There are companies set up that are actually helping online poker players find housing, and set up bank accounts in Canada, or regions in the Caribbean, just to ensure that they are playing legally, and will be able to keep all of their money. This sounds like a lot of work just to play some Texas Hold’em, but actually these sites are paying their annual salary, twice over.
